Baghdad : The Iraqi elections held Saturday as a huge leap towards the country’s democratic development, US Ambassador to Iraq Rayan Corker and Multi-National Force (MNF) Commander Raymond T. Odierno said in a joint statement.
Iraqis headed to polling stations at 14 provinces for the first provincial elections since 2005.
The statement highlighted the noticeable participation of Iraqi eligible voters, lauding the Iraqi security forces’ efforts and keenness to maintain peace and order throughout.
The US embassy extended its congratulations to the Iraqi elections higher commission upon this occasion.
The Iraqi voters cast their votes and polling stations closed without incident or security violations.
