Agra : Making critical care affordable and reducing the incidence of death from snakebites, burns and accidents are some of the issues that over 2,000 experts from different countries will debate at a five-day international congress that will be held here.
Beginning Feb 18, the theme of the conference is “Optimising ICU Resources” and specialists attending the meet will discuss latest advances in technology, set new priorities and define thrust areas for further research, said Subhash Gupta, a member of the organising committee of the congress.
Countries like India need to minimise costs of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) resources so that ordinary people can also take advantage of the critical care facilities, organising secretary B.K. Singh told IANS.
Another topic for discussion will be “When to Remove the Tube” – ethical issues relating to critical care. A session has also been earmarked to discuss aero-medical transport of critically sick patients.
The best way to handle poisoning cases will be debated and 47 cases of snake bites will be thoroughly discussed to understand the epidemiology of poisoning in India.
The critical care experts will also take up the failure of rapid response teams in accidents and evaluate the contribution information technology (IT) has made to improve ICU facilities.
