Ranchi : Maoist rebels killed two people in separate incidents in Jharkhand Monday, the police said.
According to the police, suspected rebels of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) gunned down Dhnish Kisku in Ghatshila block in Jamshedpur district, some 160 km from Ranchi Monday.
Kisku was secretary of the Village Defence Committee (VDC) formed to fight Maoist rebels.
Kisku along with two of his associates were drinking tea at a roadside shop when the Maoist rebels fired at them. All three were taken to a hospital in Jamshedpur, where Kisku was declared brought dead and the condition of the other two was said to be critical, the police said.
In another incident, CPI-Maoist activists shot dead Raju Singh, an accused in the murder of social worker Lalit Mehta in Palamau district, the police said.
Raju Singh was abducted by Maoist rebels from his home Sunday night. His body was recovered from Telari roundabout which comes under Chattarpur police station in Palamau district, some 190 km from Ranchi.
Mehta was involved in social audit work of National Rural Employment Scheme and was allegedly murdered for exposing corruption in the schemes.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In the last seven years nearly 1,400 people including 744 civilians and 320 security personnel have been killed.
