New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday condoled the death of former Tripura Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar, describing him as a politician who set “high standards for political debate” and actively worked to promote “good governance”.
“In his death the country has lost a well known personality whose contribution to public life, particularly in the north-eastern parts of the country, would be long remembered,” said Manmohan Singh in his condolence message.
“He was a sitting member of the legislative assembly. Majumdar set very high standards for political debate in the state and actively worked to promote good governance.”
Majumdar, a prominent leader of Tripura, was chief minister for four years from 1988 to 1992. Before that, he was leader of the opposition in the assembly for two years from 1986. He was also the state Congress president for two years.
Majumder, 75, died Sunday following a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife.
