London, Jan 29, IRNA — The British government has assisted repatriation of UK and other citizens from Gaza during the conflict in the region, parliament has been told.
Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell said that consular assistance to leave is also being offered to EU and certain Commonwealth citizens that do not have diplomatic representation.
“We are providing consular assistance to all British nationals in Gaza who require it,” Rammell said in a wriiten parliamentary answer published Thursday.
“In view of the particular circumstances in Gaza, this includes those with dual UK/Palestinian nationality. So far 11 individuals have requested permission to leave, which we are arranging to facilitate,” he said.
The minister, who is responsible for Middle East affairs, added that the UK will provide consular assistance to EU and in certain circumstances to Commonwealth nationals whose countries do not have diplomatic representation, as it does elsewhere in the world.
“Currently three persons have requested assistance to leave, which we are facilitating,” he added.
