Sensex dips sharply, down 91 points

Mumbai : A key index of the Indian equities markets fell sharply about 90 minutes before the closing bell Wednesday to rule 91 points lower than its previous close.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 14,902.62 points, was ruling at 14,782.97 points – 91.94 points or 0.62 percent below Tuesday’s close.

It had ruled above the 15,000-mark in earlier sessions.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) followed the Sensex to end in the red, falling 0.73 percent to 4,492.35 points.

Broader market indices were also weak, with the BSE midcap index losing 0.01 percent, but the BSE smallcap index was marginally up by 0.64 percent.
