Assam militant group chief held in Bangalore

By IANS,

Bangalore : Jewel Garlosa, chief of Assam militant group Dima Halim Daogah (DHD), also known as Black Widow group, and two of his associates have been arrested in the Karnataka capital, a top police official said Thursday.

Assam Director General of Police Ghanashyam Murari Srivastava told IANS on phone from Guwahati that Garlosa and his associates were picked up from a hotel here by Assam police with the help of Bangalore police.

“DHD has been the most desperate group, primarily responsible for targeting railway lines and killings of several people in North Cachar area of the state,” Srivastava said.

According to Srivastava, Garlosa, a tribal from Silchar whose earlier name was Mihir Burman, had slipped into Bangalore from Nepal.

“It is difficult to say when exactly he reached Bangalore but our team has been in the city for about a week after getting a tip off,” the Assam police chief said.

“At the moment, the Black Widow group is the most desperate group in the state,” Srivastava said.

Also arrested with Garlosa is S. Rehman, the group’s fund raiser.

The three will be taken to Assam after seeking permission of a Bangalore court.
