Rural development ministry wants proper use of central funds

New Delhi: Rural Development Minister C.P. Joshi Thursday asked the state governments to ensure that the funds allocated for centrally sponsored developmental schemes was utilised properly and urged them to chalk out time-bound action plans to implement the union government’s initiatives.

He was speaking at a two-day meeting here to review the performance of various schemes under his ministry. Representatives from different states and union territories are attending the meeting.

An official statement from the ministry said the conference would make a state-wide assessment of the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) for the financial year 2008-2009 and also review how the complaints from different quarters about the scheme were dealt with.

The provision of additional financial assistance and marketing facilities to rural artisans under Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) and allotment of more dwelling units to rural homeless people under the Indira Aawas Yojana (IAY) will also be discussed.

Posting data of each household of Below Poverty Line families on the ministry’s website and those of the states was high on the rural development minister’s agenda, the statement said.
