Gujarat to establish special courts for corruption cases

Gandhinagar : The Gujarat government has decided to establish two special courts for trial of corruption cases, an official here said Friday.

The special courts will be set up in Ahmedabad and Surat, and become operational by July end. Headed by an additional district judge each, they will hold trials of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

An official in the chief minister’s office said the government decided to establish the special courts since 1,128 corruption cases are pending in various courts of the state. Of these, the maximum are in Surat (136), followed by Junagadh (98), Ahmedabad (91), Jamnagar (78) and Surendranagar (66).
