India signs labour deal with Bahrain

New Delhi : India Wednesday signed a labour agreement with Bahrain that will facilitate better worker mobilisation between the two countries.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labour and manpower development was signed by Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Bahraini Labour Minister Majeed Bin Muhsin Al Alawi in Bahrain.

The agreement will facilitate the employment of workers between the two countries. It will also help in the protection and welfare of workers under labour laws of the host country, an official statement issued here said.

A joint committee will be formed to implement the agreement and it will review of employment opportunities and availability of corresponding skills in both countries.

Vayalar Ravi is on a tour of Bahrain and Oman. There are about 150,000 Indian emigrants in Bahrain, accounting for nearly half of all foreigners in the Gulf state.
