President Ahmadinejad sent his proposed budget for the next Iranian year (beginning March 21) to Majlis in early January. Majlis approved the proposed budget this week with making many changes in it.

The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran has entitled the president to send a ‘Constitutional Notice’ to officials in the three branches of the government if he believes that they have violated the Constitutional Law in performing their duties.

The president, along with his budget plan, had proposed an economic reform plan to cut state subsidies on fuel, natural gas and electricity. The government wants to distribute cash among low-income families to compensate for the price hike caused by the plan. However, Majlis rejected the plan arguing that it will trigger economic inflation which is currently high.
