According to sources, due to tough UAE laws the local cricket board is unable to guarantee fool-proof security measures which are being demanded by Cricket Australia (CA). As a result, Pakistan is now in direct contact with the UAE government to ensure security for the April 22-May 7 series.

Sources said Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry officials are in touch with their UAE counterparts to sort out the security issue which has become the biggest headache for the cricket officials in the region in the wake of the March 3 terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore.

CA has demanded high-level security for its cricketers even though Dubai and Abu Dhabi – the two venues for the one-day series – are among the world’s safest cities.

According to the sources, CA wants its team to have minimum possible distance to cover from the hotel to the stadium because it fears that terrorist can carry out a Lahore-like attack on the Aussie cricketers.

The series organisers are spending big on ensuring best possible security measures for the players during the series that will include five One-day internationals and a Twenty20 game.
