Korat (Thailand) : India’s Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj bowed out of the first round of the $50,000 ATP challenger here Tuesday.
While Amritraj went down fighting to top seed German Andreas Beck 5-7, 6-7(3), Somdev, seeded seventh, lost to Russian Alexandre Kudryavtsev 5-7, 3-6. With their exit, it was the end of the Indian challenge in the singles.
Somdev, however, advanced to the doubles quarter-finals partenering South African Izak van der Merwe. They thrashed wilcards Briton’s Faris Akhazzan and Thai Peerakia Siriluethaiwattana 6-0, 6-3
The top-seeded pair of India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, too, reached the quarter-finals with an easy 6-1, 6-4 win over Thai wild card pair Pongsatorn Benjamas and Prach Mahathavorn.
Also reaching the quarter-finals were India’s Ashutosh Singh and Purav Raja who brushed aside Frenchmen Mathieu Montcourt and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3, 6-3.
