Mumbai: Daredevil Mumbai Police officer Pradeep Sharma, who has shot dead more than 100 criminals but was sacked last year for his alleged links with the underworld, will be reinstated as the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) ruled in his favour Thursday.
“I have got justice now,” an elated Sharma said.
The MAT order comes as a shock to the Democratic Front government of Maharashtra, which had dismissed him Aug 31 last year.
Sharma, 47, an officer of the 1983 batch, has served in the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) of Mumbai Police for long and during his career he has shot dead 112 criminals and arrested more than 300 hardcore criminals.
He was also featured in the ‘Time’ newsmagazine and was part of a police team of ‘encounter’ (shootout killing) specialists.
“Not only he was ordered to be reinstated by the MAT but also it asked the government to pay the wages since the time he was dismissed,” said Sharma’s lawyer Sandeep Mutalik.
Sharma is yet to receive the certified copy of the order.
“In its order, the MAT has stated that the dismissal was not sustainable under law and if required the police could proceed with an enquiry in which Sharma would also be allowed to present his arguments and defend,” Mutalik said.
