Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Monday said all Left parties are “not bad”, in what is seen as an overture to some partners of West Bengal’s ruling Left Front which has suffered major reverses in the 2009 Lok sabha polls.
“We have said the Left is not bad. But the CPI-M-led Left Front is bad. All Left parties are not bad,” Banerjee said when asked if she would speak to Left Front constituents like the Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) to bring them into her alliance.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) are the two other Left Front constituents.
The Trinamool has won 19 seats in the general elections while its alliance partners Congress and the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) have got six and one, respectively in West Bengal. The ruling Left Front suffered a defeat, managing victories on only 15 of the state’s 42 seats.
