Bhopal: Supporting Sachin Tendulkar’s “Mumbai for all” comment, Heavy Industries Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh Tuesday said any outsider or migrant worker coming to the Maharashtra capital would be provided full security.
Deshmukh, who was here for the inauguration of BHEL’s new Ultra High Voltage Transformer manufacturing facility, said those who were opposing Sachin’s statement were doing so to gain cheap publicity.
“Every one is free to express his views in a democracy and the local population in Mumbai is not against anyone, including migrants from other states,” he told media persons.
On the violence by some legislators of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) against the use of Hindi language by Samajwadi member Abu Asim Azmi in the Maharashtra assembly, Deshmukh said the matter was being investigated.
The minister also said that there was no need to give importance to such acts (of vandalism by some parties). “If the media stops highlighting such acts, these things will stop.”
On Mumbai’s celebrities turning to Shiv Sena for protection against “anti-socials”, Deshmukh said they (celebrities) should seek police assistance.
