“It was commendable when she asked two ministers to vacate the five star hotel rooms. She should do the same with her son too. She should (control) the extravagance of Rahul Gandhi,” said Balan, from the Left Democratic Front.

The Congress government asked Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna and Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor to vacate their five star hotel accommodation in New Delhi as part of austerity measures.

Rahul Gandhi visited Kerala to boost the membership of the Youth Congress. He held meetings in three colleges at Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram Wednesday.

“When the Thekkady boat tragedy occurred, a defence aircraft was not made available to transport the bodies of the victims. How come Rahul was given one?” asked Balan.
