Taj city gets battery-run rickshaws

Agra: Agra Mayor Anjula Singh Mahaur Saturday launched a battery-run cycle rickshaw in the city of the Taj Mahal.

Marketed by a Haryana manufacturer under the brand name Bricky, it costs around Rs.52,000. According to the company, it can ply 90 km after a single charge. It can seat two passengers and run 22 km an hour.

Two vehicles were gifted to the Agra Municipal Corporation by the company.

Company official Vivek Kudesia told IANS: “This is a unique vehicle, manufactured in India for the first time. It is suited to Indian conditions. All the components can be recycled and replaced.

“The cost of running the vehicle works out to just 11 or 12 paise a kilometre. Battery charging takes around 8 to 10 hours. Once charged, the rickshaw can run for 90 km.”
