Muqtada Hasan Azhari, rector, Jamia Salfia Banaras, passes away

New Delhi: Dr Muqtada Hasan Azhari, Rector, Jamia Salfia Banaras, and senior leader of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees, passed away this morning while he was being taken to his hometown Mau in UP from Batra Hospital in Delhi. He breathed his last around 5 am near Kanpur. He was 70. He was being treated at the hospital.

Hafiz Yahya Dehlvi, president, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees, and Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salfi, General Secretary of the organization, have expressed sorrow at the demise of the renowned scholar, writer and teacher.He was to be buried in Mau after Maghrib prayers today.

Born in 1939 in Mau, Muqtada Hasan got primary education in a madrasa. After higher education also in a madrasa he went to Egypt in 1963 to do MA at Azhar University. After post graduation there, Dr Azhari worked as translator and announcer in the Urdu section of Cairo Radio. He returned to India in 1967 and devoted his life to Jamia Salfia Banaras. He wrote 32 books in Urdu and Arabic.
