New Delhi: Renowned educationist and an expert of Islamic studies and society Professor Akhtarul Wassey of Jamia Millia Islamia has been nominated to the consultative group of the Planning Commission of India for the primary and secondary education.
In this thirty-two member group headed by Dr. Narendra Jaduki, Professor Akhtarul Wassey, Director of Dr. Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, is the first Muslim Member. Dr. C. Chandramohan (Consultant, School Education) has been made the convenor of the group. The nomination of Professor Wassey to this elite group assumed importance in the sense that the sphere of activities of this group is very wide. It is entrusted with the task of examining the current schemes for the education of the children as well as women. Adult education programmes also come under its ambit.
