Withdraw curfew, stop arrest of innocent Muslim youths: Rights group

By TCN News,

Hyderabad: Expressing its concern over continuous curfew in riot-hit Hyderabad, Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) termed it an inhuman act which is creating problems for people especially the poor who live on daily wages. CLMC also demanded immediate withdrawal of innocent youths picked up from Muslim localities in connection with the communal riots.

In a press statement, CLMC rejected the administration’s claim that situation is under control and peace has been restored. “How can the government claim that the situation is under control? This can be said only when the people can move freely and without fear, shops are opened, marketplaces are filled with people, and transaction could take place. Children can go to school, offices should work as usual. But the situation is different. Homes have become like jails. People are suffering due to lack of food. The poor people who live on daily wages are hungry. Government’s inefficiency, police official’s irresponsibility and the ignorance of municipal authorities have forced the citizens to face this kind of inhuman situation” the statement reads.

The rights group also condemned the arrest of innocent Muslim youths instead of real culprits who are roaming freely. “Who spoiled the situation of the city, who sponsored the violence, who hired the anti social elements, commissioner of police is well aware of all these facts, media also knows, government is well informed. But it seems that Government is helpless. Therefore, no action has been taken against the powerful political mafia who is behind the violence. Instead of arresting the real culprits, innocent Muslim youths are being arrested from their houses by breaking the doors in the midnight. They are being kept at unknown places. These illegal acts may worsen the situation rather than control it” the group said. It demanded government to immediately withdraw the curfew and to stop arresting of Muslim youths as well as release those who have been detained.
