It added US President Barack Obama would be welcomed in Lisbon by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

The EU-US meeting is aimed at “reaffirming transatlantic agenda and advance EU-US cooperation on issues of mutual concern,” according to the statement.

An earlier EU-US summit which was slated to be held in Madrid in May, was called off amid reports that Obama did not consider it necessary to again meet EU leaders only six months after a previous meeting in Prague.

The EU-US talks will likely take place just after the NATO summit, due for November 19-20.
