New Delhi : Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Monday termed as brave Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s offer to appear before the Public Accounts Committee on the 2G spectrum scam and said it had taken the wind out of the sails of the opposition’s campaign for a joint parliamentary committee probe into the issue.
“The PM has taken a brave and unprecedented step by saying that he was prepared to appear before the PAC,” he said.
Referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s plans to hold public rallies across the country from Dec 22 in favour of its demand for a JPC, the senior Congress leader said the prime minister’s offer has deflated their campaign.
He also took a dig at the BJP, saying its leaders were “doubting the wisdom and intellect” of party leader Murli Manohar Joshi who heads the PAC.
The PAC is looking into the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on the 2G spectrum allocation scam. The prime minister said at the party’s plenary in Burari Monday that he had nothing to hide and was prepared to appear before PAC if called.
