Maulana Naseer Ahmad Khan of Darul Uloom Deoband passes away

Deoband: Renowned Islamic scholar and ex-Shaikhul Hadith of Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Naseer Ahmad Khan passed away last night in Deoband. He was 92. He taught at Deoband for seven decades and held the post of Shaikhul Hadith, the highest post in religious education, for 33 years, the longest term in the history of the world famous Islamic seminary.

He was born on 23rd December 1918 in a religious family of Bulandshahar district in Uttar Pradesh. He was appointed as teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband in 1937 and taught there for nearly 70 years. His elder brother Maulana Basheer Ahmad Khan was also teacher for upper classes at Darul Uloom.



Shaikh sahib’s teaching style was though simple but much impressive. Students got satisfied with his teaching. He was so respectful to the Hadith that he used to take bath every day before going to teach Hadiths. During his term of Shaikhul Hadith, he produced nearly 2,80,000 fuzala (graduates) who are working in different parts of the country and the world.

Besides being Shaikhul Hadith and Sadrul Mudarresin (principal), he has been also Naib Mohtamim (Deputy rector) of Darul Uloom Deoband from 1971 till 2008.

He resigned from his posts one and half years ago on health ground. After battling for his health finally he took his last breath in the night of 4th February 2010.
