Reliance MediaWorks acquires British film processing firm

Mumbai : Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s Reliance MediaWorks has set foot in Britain by acquiring the assets of ilab UK, one of the two film processing facilities based in London, a company statement said Thursday.

The facility offers processing, restoration, 2-Dimension to 3-Dimension conversion and post-production services to broadcasters and studios. The company has been the lab of choice for high-end processing for film, TV and commercial, the statement added.

“Through Reliance MediaWorks UK, we shall provide next generation services for the local filmmakers and broadcaster and also cater to Hollywood and Hindi film businesses,” said the company’s chief executive Anil Arun.

The company has already secured an image processing and restoration work for two high-profile projects from leading broadcasters at its Los Angeles-based subsidiary, Lowry Digital, which is Hollywood’s leading film restoration expert.

Lowry Digital was in the limelight recently after it handled the restoration of footage sent back to Earth from Apollo 11 as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of USA’s moon mission under the aegis of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Reliance MediaWorks currently has a major presence in different types of film services such as motion picture processing, visual effects, film restoration, image enhancement, digital mastering and studio and equipment rentals at facilities in the US and India.

In addition to these, it also operates operates the Reliance BIG Cinema, India’s largest film theater chain with as many as 500 screens in India, US, Malaysia and the Netherlands.
