New Delhi : The Congress Friday announced Oscar Fernandes will be its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka.
A party statement said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Oscar Fernandes for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
Congress sources said that the party was keen to field another candidate from the state by taking support from the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-DS) but the talks between the two parties on the issue have not been fruitful so far.
The last date of filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections from the state is June 7.
