Kottayam: The Kerala police will help the Karnataka government if the latter requests for help in relation with the Bengaluru blast case, said Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He added that the government had no information whether PDP leader Abdunnasir Madani would be arrested in connection with the case. He was speaking to media persons in Kottayam.
The Minister, however, made it clear that the Karnataka police had not approached the Kerala government on the matter. He added that the Kerala police had no prior information regarding the Karnataka police questioning Madani and wife in Kochi.
Meanwhile, Abdunnasir Madani who was undergoing treatment in the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital yesterday reached his hometown in Kollam. The police are camping outside Anvarsseri where Madani stays. PDP activists yesterday marched from Shasthamkotta junction to Anvarsseri demanding to put an end to the conspiracy against Madani connecting him with bomb blasts.
The nearly 10 year-jail term of Madani since 1999 was facilitated by the arrest of Madani by the Kerala police and then handing him over to the Tamil Nadu police. The LDF government in power then had boasted in the next election that Madani’s arrest and handing over to the TN police were merits of the government. The UDF government that followed did not respond positively even for a bail for Madani to attend the funeral of his grandmother. However, as time passed, the public opinion of the Kerala society changed in favour of Madani as news began to come out regarding the human rights violations he was enduring. The LDF government in power arranged a grand function to welcome Madani on his release. Several ministers shared stage with Madani in that function. Madani also publicly apologized for the harsh terms that he had used earlier, and vowed not to hurt any communal sentiments further on. Madani gave complete support to the LDF in the last general elections and shared stage with the CPI (M) state general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan during the campaigns. But now terrorist accusations are again coming up against Madani and his wife Soofiya. Soofiya is accused in the Kalamassery bus-burning case in which Thadiyantavide Naseer is the main accused. Naseer is the prime accused in the Bengaluru blast also. Hence, connecting Madani also with the blast. The Karnataka police had last day come to Kochi and questioned Madani and Soofiya.
