Explanations needed from the CPI (M): JIH Kerala Amir T Arifali

By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI (M) which now says that the Jamat e Islami is dangerous should explain why it had kept silent in the last decade on the matter, said T Arifali, Jamat e Islami Kerala Amir. He was inaugurating the public function of the JIH Kerala in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Arifali said that the CPI (M) had criticized the fundamentals of the Jamat. If the organisation’s fundamental principles are dangerous, was the CPI (M) hypocritical in its silence on the matter in the last decade? The leadership should explain this or it would be considered as a way of deceiving people. They should prove if Jamat had worked against any good deed in the state.

He accused that the CPI (M) had changed its fundamental principles. The CPI (M) is now planning to implement the Hindutva agenda of the late 1980s, ignoring other agendas of anti-fascism, anti-imperialism and people-friendly development etc. The party leadership has advised its members to keep the majority community together and to keep the minority communities away. The CPI (M) is trying to play the communal card throwing away the principles related to the fundamentals of communism. By attacking the Jamat e Islami, the party general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan is trying to get the votes of those Hindus and Muslims who do not support the Jamat. He questioned the right of the CPI (M), which believes that revolution should come through guns, to accuse the Jamat of anti-democracy.

AS Noorudheen, Jamat e Islami district president, presided over the function which began at 5.30 in the evening and continued upto about 10 pm. Hameed Vanimel, state political secretary of the JIH, and KA Shafeeq, state vice-president of the Solidarity, also spoke. S Ameen welcomed and MSK Thangal delivered the vote of thanks.

The function was arranged by the state JIH at a time when the announcement of the Jamat into the election foray has created ripples in the Kerala political circles. The LDF and the CPI (M) which had received the support and votes of the Jamat for the past couple of years have reacted harshly to the Jamat decision. The CPI (M) general secretary who had praised JIH as ‘an organisation which has clear outlook about national and international matters’ during the election campaigns of last year is now accusing the Jamat of anti-democracy and communalism. The CPI (M) began to publicly criticize the Jamat and the Solidarity after the two organizations successfully intervened in the Kinalur struggle against the government move to build a road evicting people of their homes and lands. The organisation had earlier also taken stands against the decisions and moves of the LDF government even while supporting the party in elections. So the new attack on the part of the CPI (M) can clearly be seen as a response to JIH’s announcement of entry into the election field.
