Malappuram: The central postal department will issue a new postal stamp in memory of late Muslim League president Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal, reports say. The stamp will be issued on August 1, the first death anniversary of Thangal.
Shihab Thangal was the state president of the Muslim League in Kerala for around 25 years. He led the party in the crucial years following the demolition of the Babri Masjid and his leadership at that time is still praised. His leadership also witnessed the departure of certain senior leaders like Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait from the party who then formed the INL. He was more than a leader of a political party and was respected and considered as a spiritual leader by Keralites.
