Aligarh: On the 112th Death Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, The Aligarh Movement magazine launched educational movement series today at Aligarh Muslim University. Principal of AMU Women’s polytechnic & Social Activist Prof. Shamim Ahmad inaugurated the series and released special edition of the magazine in the auditorium of Women’s Polytechnic Auditorium.

On the occasion Prof. Shamim Ahmad pointed out that Aligarh Movement launched by Sir Syed is fizzling out which needs to be revived. Dr. Mohammad Shahid said initiative of Aligarh Movement magazine is laudable that they are carrying on mission of Sir Syed in right way.
Research Scholar of AMU and Editor of The Aligarh Movement magazine, Jasim Mohammad said that Sir Syed was a ‘school of thought’. We have limited him to be an educationist, forgetting his other roles which are very important. In a message to Aligs, Jasim said that today the Aligarh Movement has limited to the seminars, mushairaas or discussions. “No meaningful debate is going on for its revival. It is a misconception that Aligarh Movement was only an educational movement. In fact it was a composite movement based on socio-educational and political aspirations of the Muslims of India. Just by Sir Syed dinners or seminars on him, we cannot realize his dreams. It is need of hour to re-evaluate our own role in respect of Aligarh Movement and re-launch it with our full strength to pass out legacy to our next generation. Otherwise they will accuse us of inactivity.”
Jasim also appealed to the Indian government that Sir Syed’s portrait should be put up in the Parliament and on his birthday [17th October] and Death Anniversary [27th March]. However, the cover-page of his own Aligarh Movement magazine’s special series launched today on the occasion of Sir Syed’s death anniversary has no picture of the great educationist.
