New Delhi : As the capital experiences scorching summer heat, the Delhi Metro has upgraded the air-conditioning in some trains on its elevated corridors, including the Mundka-Inderlok route, an official said Sunday.
The air-conditioning has already been upgraded in the standard gauge trains introduced on the Mundaka-Inderlok route and new coaches of other trains supplied by the Bombardier company and MRM consortium, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said.
“The new trains will be able to provide 25 degrees Celsius temperature inside coaches for the comfort of passengers even at a time when the outside temperature touches 44 degrees Celsius,” the official said.
Improved air-conditioning will also be available in all trains that will join the Metro fleet soon, he said.
The new trains will have two roof-mounted AC units with a capacity of 52 kilo-watt each and their ducting has been done in such a manner that uniform temperature is maintained in each coach, the official said.
The AC units are computer controlled and in case of any defect in any unit, it will be possible for other AC units to provide backup flow of cool air for the comfort of passengers, the official said.
Besides, the Metro drivers will also be able to monitor and adjust temperature levels in the coaches.
The Metro covers 111 km in the capital.
