Bangalore: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), while mourning the death of passengers in the crash of Air India Express flight from Dubai at Mangalore, has called upon the Union Government to order thorough investigations into the mishap with emphasis on whether standard safety measures were available at the Bajpe airport.
A. Sayeed, SDPI general secretary, in a statement expressed deep shock at the mishap and offered his party’s condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of their personal tragedies.
“We share the grief and loss of the families who became victims of this tragedy and pray to Almighty to give strength to them to bear the loss with equanimity”, he said.
` Sayeed questioned the quality of the newly-built Bajpe airport especially the safety measures available there as compared to other airports in India. He accused the Civil Aviation Ministry of neglecting the concerns expressed in the past over the non-availability of standard safety measures at the airport.
He demanded a thorough probe into the tragic incident while highlighting the lacunae in safety measures at the Bajpe airport. Those responsible for it should be dealt sternly, he added.
It may mentioned here that in one of the country’s worst aviation disasters, more than 160 people were feared dead after an Air India Express flight from Dubai overshot the newly-built Mangalore runway and exploded after catching fire early on Saturday morning.
