Rekha, 34, is a resident of Madipur in west Delhi, was arrested Friday, police said.

“She was arrested while selling complimentary tickets of the Games for entry to track and field events at Nehru stadium. A total of 96 complimentary tickets of different denominations and dates have been recovered from her,” said a senior police official.

A case of cheating has been registered against her at Lodhi Colony police station.

V.K. Mishra, father of a national level swimmer, who had got a number of complimentary tickets from the Games Organising Committee headquarters distributed these among many schools, including the one in which Rekha was working, said police.

Police arrested Rekha following news reports that tickets and complimentary passes of the Games were being sold illegally.

“The 96 seized tickets included 11 tickets of Rs.500 denomination, 45 tickets of Rs.250 denomination and 40 tickets of Rs.100 denomination,” said a police official.

During interrogation, it was revealed that she procured the complimentary tickets from a physical education school teacher who was given the free tickets by the organisers for school children.

“The woman instead of distributing these complimentary tickets to children began selling them near the stadium’s gate number 15, near the authorised ticket counter. No record of complimentary tickets was found either with the woman or with the school authorities,” said the police officer.
