Kashmir Pandit leaders slam Omar’s statements

Jammu : Kashmir Pandit leaders Saturday assailed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statements on the state’s accession to India, terming them “seditious”.

At a joint press conference here, leaders of various Kashmiri Pandit groups accused Abdullah of causing embarrassment to the country by violating the constitution and making statements which were seditious in tone and tenor.

The press conference was addressed by Panun Kashmir chairman Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, All Kashmiri Pandit Samaj general secretary H.L.Chattha and other leaders of the community.

“Omar has vitiated the atmosphere by such statements,” Chrungoo said.

Speaking in the state assembly in Srinagar Wednesday, the chief minister said the state had acceded to India and not merged with it as some of the other princely states of the country, drawing huge protests from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
