Siliguri (West Bengal) : The Gorkha Janmukhti Morcha (GJM) Friday announced that it would support the Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance in 12 of the 15 assembly seats in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts during the April-May West Bengal polls. The Trinamool, however denied any tie-up with the party.
The GJM, which is spear-heading the move for Gorkhaland state, is contesting Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong assembly seats in the hills but will support the Trinamool and Congress candidates in three other assembly seats in the plains of the Darjeeling district, GJM leaders said here.
The GJM would also support the Trinamool and Congress candidates in nine seats of Dooars areas of Jalpaiguri district, where the party enjoyed a support base, they added.
Denying any such tie-up with GJM, the Trinamool termed it a game plan of Left Front and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to malign its image.
“It is a game plan of Left Front and BJP. We don’t have any such tie-up with GJM,” Trinamool Congress leader and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy told IANS.
