MCD asked for report on sealing drive

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Friday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to submit a fresh report on the action taken against illegal structures built on encroached land in the South Extension neighbourhood.

The order was passed by a division bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Ajit Bharihoke.

MCD counsel H.S. Phoolka informed the court that the civic agency has taken action against illegal structures in South Extension but some institutions have not been sealed.

“Coaching institutes have seeked one month’s time as large number of students are studying and their batch will end up by April end,” said Phoolka.

Earlier, the MCD had sought two months time saying the drive could not be carried out due to cold weather.

The bench was hearing a petition filed in 2001 by the New Delhi South Extension-I Residents Welfare Association seeking action against illegal structures, encroachment and running of unauthorized commercial activities in the area.
