New Delhi : Vijay Nahata, Maharashtra’s director general of information and public relations, was felicitated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the Prime Minister’s Award for excellence in public administration here Thursday, a statement said.Nahata was honoured for his services to Mumbai’s satellite city of Navi Mumbai during his previous tenure as the commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
Nahata has successfully established a learning and vocation centre for the physically handicapped in the region, the statement said.
The special school, established in Rabale township, has proved to be a one-stop centre for children who need more than one treatment and therapy, along with special education.
In 2007, Nahata became the first NMMC commissioner to make a six-month performance report public.
Nahata also received a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh along with the award, given on the occasion of Civil Services Day.
Nahata became the chief of the state Directorate General of Information and Public Relations in January 2011.
