Bangalore : Karnataka achieved a record of sorts Monday when a trial court summoned two former chief ministers for corruption and a former minister was sent to jail for taking kickback.
The two former chief ministers are Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) B.S. Yeddyurappa and his Janata Dal-Secular predecessor H.D. Kumaraswamy.
The ex-BJP minister who went to jail is Katta Subramanya Naidu and his Bangalore corporator son Katta Jagadish.
They were accused of taking over Rs.85 crore for allotting 325 acres of land to Itasca software firm near Bangalore.
The judge who created the record with these decisions is Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao.
He constitutes the special Lokayukta (omubdsman) court for speedy disposal of corruption cases.
Rao has summoned Yeddyurappa, his two sons, one of who is a BJP Lok Sabha member, son-in-law and several others to appear before him Aug 27.
Kumaraswamy has to appear along with his legislator and entrepreneur wife Anita Aug 30. Anita runs a Kannada TV channel. She represents Madhugiri seat in the assembly.
Of these three politicians, Yeddyurappa has maximum cases to fight.
He quit July 31 after the then Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde recommending his trial on charges of allowing his sons to make money from companies involved in illegal mining in the state.
