New Delhi : Every fourth Indian lives in an urban area.
This is borne from statistics provided by Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.
In response to a question from Pralhad Joshi, the minister said the total population of the country according to the 2011 census was 1.2 billion.
Of this, 833,087,662 people lived in rural areas and 377,105,760 in urban areas.
