Kasargode police firing: Js MA Nizar to collect evidence again on Sept 3

By TCN News,

Kasargode: Amid new revelations related to the clashes and police firing in Kasargode, Js MA Nizar will again collect evidence on the incident on September 3. The collection of evidence will take place in the Kasargode Collectorate Hall at 2.30 pm.

Js Nizar reportedly informed that the collection of evidence was planned as he got no official information that the commission headed by him was dismissed. He added that any complaints on the matter should reach the commission by September 3.

The first sitting of the commission was a failure as the Muslim League boycotted it accusing the left connections of Js Nizar. Public people did not reportedly attend it. The second sitting was announced to be on July 22, but was cancelled by the commission reportedly following media reports of dismissal of the commission.

Two people had lost their lives in the clashes and police firing that took place in Kasargode on November 15, 2009, when a public programme was being held to honour Muslim League’s newly-elected president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal and other state leaders. Muslim Youth League member Shafeeq died in the police firing and another member Muhammed Azhar was stabbed to death in the clashes. The LDF government in power appointed Js MA Nizar to investigate into the matter, but the UDF government announced to dismiss the commission accusing that Js Nizar was a left associate and so he cannot investigate impartially into the matter. However, Js Nizar, while announcing the new collection of evidence, reportedly says that he has not yet been officially intimated about the dismissal of the commission headed by him.

The issue again came up after the UDF government decided to dismiss the commission when the testimonies of certain police officers got leaked. The leakage soon after the government decision to dismiss the commission raised several questions, and the Muslim League Kasargode Committee has asked to investigate into the leakage.

The leaked testimonies are reportedly of the then Kasargode district SP Ramdas Pothen, the bullet from whose revolver killed one person, and of Crime Detachment DySP KP Raghuraman. SP Pothen has reportedly testified that he had to order firing as the police got secret information regarding a conspiracy to unleash communal riots all over Malabar. The rally and demonstration were held without prior permission and activists of the PFI had taken part in them, who tried to unleash communal riots in the guise of Muslim League, the testimony reportedly says. However, the Muslim League says that the accusations are alibis cooked up by the police to justify the firing.

Meanwhile, Js Nizar and SP Ramdas Pothen clarified that they were not behind the leakage of testimonies, according to reports. Js Nizar reportedly also said that the collection of evidence was held publicly and that anybody could get the details through the RTI.
