Delhi building collapse victims’ kin to get damages

New Delhi: The Delhi government Monday announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh to the next of kin of three women and Rs.1 lakh for the father of a minor who lost their lives in the building collapse in west Delhi. The injured would get Rs.10,000.

“The next of kin of the three adults killed in the incident will get an amount of Rs.2 lakh each. A minor was also killed in the incident, whose father will be paid an amount of Rs.1 lakh, and Rs. 10,000 would be given to the two injured people,” said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The women and child died Saturday when the building in Uttam Nagar collapsed due to illegal and faulty construction of a basement on the adjacent plot.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended two of its civic engineers for negligence and ordered a vigilance probe to ascertain the causes behind the accident.
