Shab-e-Ashoor procession attracts thousands of Shia mourners

Lucknow: The traditional Shab-e-Ashoor procession was taken out with thousands of Shia Muslims draped in black clothes attending it on Monday. The procession is related to the evening before 10th Muharram which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions at Karbala nearly 1300 years ago.

The procession originated from Imambara Nazim Saheb and passed through Nakhas, Tudiyaganj, Billochpura, Akbari Gate before culminating at Dargah Hazrat Abbas in Rustam Nagar.

Thousands of mourners participated in it reciting marsiyas and performing matam to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. When the alam denoting Hazrat Abbas which is part of the procession emerged from Imambada, a sea of crowd thronged it to have a glimpse and offer their reverence.

Several anjumans recited marsiyas while the mourners performed matam with every eye moist remembering the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. Prior to the procession, Imam-e-Juma, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad addressed the sermon and presented a heart rendering scene of Karbala incident.

The procession is part of the tripartite agreement between Shias, Sunnis and district administration. Heavy security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incident.
