Islamabad : Ten Pakistani missions are headed by women ambassadors, said Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.
Khar informed the National Assembly in a written reply Wednesday that out of a total 87 Pakistan’s missions abroad at the level of ambassador/high commissioner, 10 missions are currently headed by female ambassadors.
In addition, the government has nominated Sherry Rehman as ambassador of Pakistan to Washington, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted her as saying.
Rehman took over from Husain Haqqani, who quit following a controversy over a secret memo to Washington that claimed President Asif Ali Zardari had feared a military coup after the May 2 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
Pakistan has an estimated population of 180 million, half of whom are women.
