Paddy procurement in Haryana at all-time high

Chandigarh : The gvernment’s agencies have made an all-time high procurement of 29.23 lakh tonnes of paddy this season, a Haryana minister said Thursday.

“The six government procuring agencies have procured over 29.23 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in Haryana till yesterday (Wednesday), which is an all-time high paddy procurement in the state,” Food and Supplies Minister Mahender Partap Singh said.

The rest of the paddy grown in the state and brought to the grain markets was procured by private millers.

The minister said that last year, government agencies had procured over 24.82 lakh tonnes of paddy in the state.

Paddy arrival in the state’s grain markets crossed the mark of 47.90 lakh tonnes till Wednesday. Last year, the total arrivals were nearly 46.13 lakh tonnes, he said.

Paddy procurement started in the state Oct 1 and would officially end Saturday (Dec 31).

Karnal district led in paddy arrival this season, followed by Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts.
