New Delhi : United Progressive Alliance constituent Trinamool Congress Thursday demanded the deletion from the Lokpal bill of an entire section on the Lokayuktas in the states.
Participating in the debate on Lokpal bill in Rajya Sabha, party leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said that chapter three on the Lokayuktas should be deleted from the bill.
“Delete chapter three in its entirety from this bill,” he said.
“Previously it was only ‘Lokpal bill’, suddenly and surprisingly it became the ‘Lokpal and Lokayukta bill’,” he said, terming it an attack on federal structure which was “unacceptable”.
He, however, added that the Trinamool Congress was very much with government, and accused the Left parties of joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“We are with the government…the left and right join hands,” he said.
The Trinamool Congress has moved an amendment for deletion of chapter three from the Lokpal bill, which was passed by Lok Sabha Tuesday.
