New Delhi: Salman Ahmad, one of the accused in Delhi 2008 serial blasts, was acquitted this afternoon (5th Feb) by a Delhi court. Talking exclusively to TwoCircles.net, Salman’s lawyer, Iftekhar Ahmad welcomed the judgment and said the “historic and unprecedented judgment will set an example for other cases against Salman and other accused in Delhi serial blasts and Ahmadabad and Jaipur blasts.”
Talking about the main points of the Additional Sessions Judge Ms. Santosh Snehi Mann’s verdict, Iftekhar Ahmad said, “The honorable judge acquitted Salman at a very preliminary stage much before the beginning of the trial, because the prosecution failed to produce any evidences to substantiate its claim that Salman Ahmad was an IM operative, one of the main charges of the prosecution.”
“The judge also said that in the absence of any evidence, there was no point in proceeding further in this case,” Mr. Ahmad further added.

The lawyer informed TCN that the judge also rejected the prosecution’s argument that the conversation between Atif Amin, the alleged IM operative killed in Batla House “encounter” and Salman, proves that Salman was plotting Delhi blasts with Atif. The judge said that after reading and hearing the transcript of the conversation, it was quite clear that the conversation had nothing to do with the blasts.
Mr. Ahmad regarded this judgment as “very important” because “it is the first acquittal in the series of blast cases where police has made the same group of youth as accused in Delhi serial blasts 2008, Ahmadabad and Jaipur blasts.”
Mr. Ahmad further added that, “this judgment makes prosecution’s case against Salman and other accused in the Delhi blasts as well as Ahmadabad and Jaipur blasts case, very weak because the main charge on which the prosecution at these three blasts case have relied heavily that Salman is an IM operative, was demolished by the honorable judge.”
“The honorable judge saw through the contradiction and gaps in the story made by the prosecution and Salman’s acquittal at such preliminary stage will strengthen our argument against the prosecution that their arguments are nothing but made up stories,” Salman’s lawyer further said.
