Pakistan rejects presence of its troops in Libya

Islamabad : Pakistan has rejected Arab media reports that its troops are involved in the ongoing violence in Libya.

In response to question about reports circulated in the Arab media alleging involvement of Pakistan’s military in the current developments in Libya, the Foreign Office Spokesperson emphatically stated that these were mischievous and totally baseless.

‘There are no military personnel stationed in Libya,’ the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has set up a Special Task Force in the Foreign Ministry to monitor the situation round the clock and to provide assistance to Pakistani expatriates, she said.

The Foreign Ministry is in close contact with its Missions in Tripoli, neighbouring countries and the region.

“Given the deteriorating security situation in Libya all Pakistani expatriates are advised to maintain close contact with our Embassy in Tripoli”.

Responding to a question regarding Pakistani expatriates in Libya, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said that the Foreign Ministry was closely following developments in Libya.
