New Delhi: Ahead of the budget session, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday said he was ready to explore “all possible approaches” to end the impasse on the opposition’s demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam.
“As far as JPC is concerned, our government is ready for all possible approaches,” Manmohan Singh told reporters when asked about the persisting deadlock over the opposition demand for a JPC that paralyzed the entire winter session of parliament.
“We want parliament should function and all problems can be debated in parliament. We are not afraid of any subject being brought up for discussion,” the prime minister said.
“Parliament is the forum for discussion,” he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left parties have stuck to their demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum allocation. If these parties do not relent, there is little likelihood of any business being conducted during the crucial budget session of parliament.
Early this month, Manmohan Singh said he was ready to appear before the Public Account Committee (PAC) of parliament that is looking into issues relating to the 2G spectrum allocation.
The opposition has been relentlessly demanding setting up of a JPC to probe the irregularities in the allocation of the second generation telecom spectrum in 2008.
The issue even forced DMK leader A. Raja to step down as communications minister in November.
