An Egyptian citizen who left Cairo just two days ago told IRNA on Sunday that one week of unrest in different cities of Egypt including the capital city has given rise to the expectations that the three-decade-old regime of President Hosni Mubarak would fall apart any moment.

The citizen said the situation in foreign embassies in Cairo was quite critical.

The source said the embassies were in top security conditions and there were many developments going on around them.

Talking to IRNA on the condition of anonymity for security reasons, the Egyptian citizen added that he had heard many people talk of orders to the embassy staff of European and American embassies in Cairo to get ready for critical situations and destroy their secret documents.

Reports also say that the US ships stationed in the region are in full alert state and are ready to transfer the members of the US embassy in Cairo.

Last week, the US secretary of state called on American citizens residing in Egypt not to appear on the streets and wait for further guidelines.

The US has strongly backed President Mubarak’s dictatorship in Egypt in the past 30 years. The policy stood in sharp contrast with the actual will of the Egyptian nation.

During their demonstrations in the past few days, Egyptians have expressed their wrath for the US administration and the Zionist regime.

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary William Hague, too, repeated his call on UK nationals not to travel to Egypt and said his ministry was already dispatching additional sources to the British embassy in Cairo to cope with the situation and help the remaining UK nationals leave the country.
