Quake hits Taiwan region

Beijing : An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the sea off the northern coast of Taiwan Monday, Xinhua reported.

According to Taiwan’s meteorological authorities, the quake struck at 10.48 p.m. (Beijing Time). It had its epicentre, with a depth of 27.1 km, in southeast of Hualien county.

The US Geological Survey measured the earthquake scale as 5.1 with a depth of 15.90 km at the epicentre, which was determined to be at 23.5819 degrees north latitude and 122.3901 degrees east longitude.
